The Courts Comparison
Some people do not understand why there is a separate criminal justice system, or process, for juveniles than for adults. It seems that all criminal acts should be processed through the same system. However, this is exactly one of the reasons juveniles are not processed through the same system. Juveniles do not merely commit criminal acts. They can also be processed for status offenses or delinquent behavior whereas adults cannot. As mentioned above, this is only one of the reasons there is a separate system for juveniles. Many reasons still remain as detailed below.
           As research concludes, the main reason for a separate juvenile system is it is believed that juveniles have a greater chance of rehabilitation than adults do. Juveniles are at a different developmental stage than adults, their behavior is still considered to be moldable, and they tend to be more impressionable than adults. Therefore, the juvenile system is geared more toward rehabilitation and treatment rather than punishment, as the adult system is based on. This is shown in the fact that very few juveniles a ...
