I favor a balanced approach to fiscal responsibility, taxes should be raised and government should reduce spending. Raising taxes will bring a measure of relief in the form of more income but at the same time will decrease spending in whatever good the tax has been levied, the law of substitution comes to mind. Tax increases by themselves would initiate a downward spiral where people would begin changing their spending habits to adjust for the higher prices in some goods tax alone would have a destabilizing effect specially in this economy, slashing spending while not a popular political measure would create savings and not impact the population as bad as long as the cuts come in the non essential services, porkbarrel projects have to go, the political entities of the land would have to behave responsibly and serve the communities instead of acting in a selfish I want to get re-elected way.
