Q:
Northwestern Power Company has a cost of equity capital of 12 percent, but it has been continuously successful in earning a 17 percent return on the portion of its equity capital that is committed to utility operations. If Northwestern expects this situation to continue for the foreseeable future, would you expect its next power plant to be a large coal plant or a series of several smaller natural gas-fired plants? Why?
