Using your favorite Web search tool, find an instance of an ecological "mess" that has taken place in your city/county/region. Outline the history of the problem – what caused it? What is being done to resolve the problem? Suppose that you had been in charge of the situation. What might you have done differently to prevent it or make it less of a mess?
Ideas and facts that you present must have a source. If the source (usually your textbook) is not provided by your instructor, it may not be relevant. For every source you use, consider the following:
1. Who is the intended audience? (Neither a K–12 nor a professional specialist audience is appropriate.)
2. When, and by whom, was the information verified?
An appropriate source is equivalent to a current college textbook in the same discipline as the class.
2.
We have defined sustainable development as the balance of human needs with those of our planet. We looked at reforestation to deal with the problems caused by clearcutting. Choose another type of ecological problem and devise a model for sustainable development. Have fun and feel free to use your imagination! (Remember that Napoleon Hill once said, "What the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve.")

To complete this exploration you will be utilizing the course companion Web site, MasteringBiology. Complete the activity:
Graphit! Age Pyramids and Population Growth including answering the tutorial questions to build your understanding.
Describe what we can learn about a population’s potential for growth based on its age pyramid. Choose a specific example to analyze, and present your understanding of its potential.
