Stephen Doloff, "The Opposite Sex”
This unit's assignment is to write an analytical paper of around 750-1000 words. This paper will also be based on your readings in this unit. You may subsequently decide to develop the paper for your research project. Therefore, as you read you should think about the critical approaches that are introduced and think about which reading (or readings) you think might be productively analyzed using one of these approaches.
Arguing an Interpretation or an Evaluation
Although you will not write this paper until you have worked through this unit's literature, the assignment is posted here so that you may begin to think about how to approach it.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to argue or interpret a literary work that you choose from the assigned readings in this unit. As you read the assigned literature, you should consider how you might interpret or evaluate one of the works. Any questions that you have regarding the assignment should be posted in "FAQ" in Discussions.
Requirements and Options: The completed draft of this paper should be 750 -1000 words, or no less that three complete and no more than four complete pages, in a standard, twelve-point font, such as Times New Roman or Arial. Refer to the course calendar to find the deadline for submission of your paper. You may choose to write about any essay, story, play, or poem that is assigned for this unit. This unit's paper does not need to involve researched material. However, if you decide to use any words or ideas from an outside source, you must use quotation marks to indicate direct quotes and must in all cases cite the source using the current MLA format. If you like, you may get feedback on the practicality of your thesis from your instructor before beginning to write. You may choose to seek feedback on your draft from the instructor or peers. Peer feedback may not include editing or correcting of grammar, but it may include suggestions regarding the need to refine a thesis, or improve organization, development, or logic. If you decide to ask a classmate to review your paper, use "2.7 Peer Review Request" in Discussions to request a peer partner. Use the subject line

Females, of course, harbored their own stereotypical images of what it was to be a male verses a female in our world. Females typically viewed the male life as more exciting and free wheeling. Instead of presenting themselves as males laboring away to bring a paycheck home to their families, females wrote of their male personas as engaging in exciting spor ...
