American Musical Theater:
If you have never seen a musical, try to go to a live performance. Wicked will be touring this fall (see link to documentary in content.) Many musicals are also available on DVD such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera; Hairspray; Mama Mia; My Fair Lady; West Side Story; and the classics of Rogers and Hammerstein. Try to check out a few and expand your musical world.
What is your favorite musical and why? (If you have never seen one, please view one or more during the course of this module and tell what you saw and why you selected it.)
How does the Broadway musical do more than entertain? (see p. 454 in text, and view Broadway videos in content.)
Why was West Side Story such an immediate success and a continuing classic?
