Q:

1.   1,020 randomly selected adults were asked whether they took statistics class. Only 45% said ‘yes’.

a.   What percent did not respond ‘yes’?

b.   Is the proportion answering ‘yes’ (45%) a parameter or a statistic? Explain your answer.

c.   Find a range for the number of people who responded ‘yes’. That is, determine all the numbers that, when divided by 1,020, round to 0.45.

(Note: 0.45 x 1020 = 459. But if you try 458 divided by 1,020, or 460 divided by 1,020, you will also get 0.45 to two decimal places. Which other values meet this criterion?)
