The Evolution of Industrial and Organizational Psychology
                      Industrial and organizational psychology evolved from little beginnings with big expectations. In 1924, Henry A Lansberger(Landsberger, 1958)was commissioned to study a factory called Hawthorne Works to see if the productivity of its employees would increase dependent on the level of light that was in the work area. Lansbergerâs findings were simple. The change of scenery, the cleanliness of the production areas, as well as ample lighting all configured to an increase in employee productivity. However, the productivity had also increased because of the employeeâs knowledge of being watched. Thusly, Lansberger called this temporary increase of productivity and employee awareness the Hawthorne Effect. Today, industrial and organizational psychologists rely greatly on the concept o ...
