Q:

.  If you are trying to create an effective team, is it good to list behaviors that are the bare minimum to even be part of a group and call these behaviors "Excellent?"  How motivated would you be if your boss rewarded you because you showed up on time, or did the minimum amount of work required?  Would receiving rewards for these minimalistic behaviors motivate you to perform at a higher level?

What if you did not want to be an "Excellent" employee and just wanted to be a "good" employee...would you be tempted to do less than your job if you knew you would still be considered good?

If you were a manager wanting to create a high-impact team, is this how you would do it (label the bare minimum work as Excellent)?

Do you have other suggestions for how to create a high-performing team?
