For this question, you're going to need to understand a little bit about Gothic literature.
Gothic originated in England in the late 1700s, and came out of the Romantic movement, which focused more on strong emotions than on anything else. In most cases, these were positive emotions, but with Gothic literature the focus is on the negative emotions, especially fear, terror and madness. It's clear that "The Yellow Wallpaper" has really strong negative emotions. The whole story is basically about the fear and terror of being thought mad, which ironically leads to madness.
There are plenty of examples, but the clearest come from the descriptions of the woman that the main character thinks she sees moving around in the wallpaper, mostly at the end of the story.
This entire section, in one of the last few sections, is a good one for gothic horror:
