I included at least two servings of fish per week. I limited the intake of foods that contain saturated fats such as French fries, doughnuts and cakes. Instead I started consuming a more than sufficient amount of fruits and vegetables improving my energy needs. Three cups of fruits and 3.5 cups of vegetable is what I consume every day staying in a recommended reference of 3,500-calorie intake. Also, I chose a variety of vegetables and fruits each day. I selected from different vegetables subgroups: dark green-lettuce and spinach, orange-carrots and sweet potatoes, legumes-black, kidney and pinto beans, starchy-corn and potatoes, other-cauliflower, green beans, mushrooms and tomatoes. Additionally, I chose to consume 4-5 ounces of whole-grain products such as wheat bread, crackers and brown rice. My diet setting is also consuming three cups of milk or milk products per day.
Major Healthy Goal-Nutritional Components
When I made the food choices above, what I was mostly aware of was their nutritional value. Having My Pyramid Tracker as a descriptor of nutritional components contained in every food and their value, it helped me make the right choice of nutrition-rich foods. The main healthy nutrie ...

After this observations and the knowledge I obtained for the course of Human Nutrition I understood that all I need to do in order to get the necessary calories, vitamins and minerals for my organism I need to need to consume various types of food. Not to eat simply fruits or dairy products, but all the elements of the Nutritional Pyramid. Another important thing I learned is that I need to keep the balance between the amounts of food I eat and my physical activity for this is the only way to be always of a necessary weight. My food needs to be low fat and include more fruit, vegetables and croups. My nutrition habits also included the consumption of high quantity of sugar. At the present moment I acknowledge that I need to prefer fish and white meat and eat as less red meat as possible.
The third main principle of healthy nutrition is consuming a moderate amount of food at a time and I general. A person needs to eat exactly the amount of food he needs to ...

The first goal I have set is to eat a well balanced diet. I can do this by monitoring my food intake and comparing this to the recommendations given by the My Food Pyramid website. Once comparing my food intake to the helpful website, I can make adjustments to my diet as needed to balance my diet. I have begun this by looking up the daily food requirements for my age, height, and weight. I also monitored my daily food intake closely on several occasions to see where I stood, compared to the recommendations set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture.
One of my most challenging goals that I have set for myself is to limit the amount of empty calories I eat. By limiting the amount of junk food that I consume this will prevent me from gaining excess weight from too much saturated fats and excess carbohydrates. Rather than snacking on cakes, chips, and various candies, I will eat healthier foods instead. One step I have taken to meet this goal is to not buy junk foods. If these foods are not in the house, then I can not be tempted to eat them when I am home. Another very important step that I have taken to help me reach this goal is to buy a variety of fruits and vegetables in addition to an assortment of whole grain snacks to eat between meals. By replacing junk food with healthy snacks, it will also give my body the well needed vitamins and nutrients that I need on a daily basis.
In addition to the two nutri ...

I planned diligently to include all the recommended amount of serving of different food elements in the daily meal that would provide my daily total energy or caloric needs. Being active at my age, I needed to complete about 2,400 kilocalories per day. That requires about 6-12 serving of carbohydrates but I decided to trim down my carbohydrates and include eight servings in my daily meal at the maximum. Cereal is still one of the sources for my carbohydrates but I got wiser and preferred fortified cereals. I also started to concentrate more on freshly cooked grains and cereal, brown bread, and other fresh sources of carbohydrates. I made sure that the one serving of meat, poultry, fish and eggs are freshly cooked and a locally produced product. I believe that I will gain more benefits from fresh ones much better than the long frozen or processed products which I had been used to before. I do take my glass of milk in the morning and take additional dairy product to complete my need for two servings daily which will be a good source of my daily calcium needs. I really believed that I was eating adequate vegetables before but I discovered I had not completed the five servings then. In addition, I added the amount of what I am supposed to get daily and became wiser by choosi ...

The first week showed my fiber intake at 15 gm and 25 gm is the recommendation. I have made progress by increasing it to 23 gm. The other nutrient I needed to focus on was protein. My first week showed my protein intake at 72 gm and 46 gm is the recommendation. Even though it’s not a huge impact I have reduced it to 65 gm. Carbohydrates were another nutrient I needed to improve on. My first week showed my intake of 275 gm and 130 gm is the recommendation. I have made a little improvement bringing it to 259 gm.
To make it possible to keep up a healthy diet on a daily basis, it is important to know which role the different kinds of nutrition plays in food. Explained in the article Nutrition (1995) all nutrients are divided into three different groups, which are called macronutrients, micronutrients, and water. Macronutrients for instance are nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates and lipids, which the body needs in big quantities. Macronutrient is the name that is used for the 13 vitamins and 20 minerals because these nutrients are only needed in smaller quantities.
