Q:
Compare and contrast the legacies of cultural syncretism in Africa and the Americas with the resistance to cultural change Westerners encountered in China and India. What cultural factors caused the differences in outcomes? What legacies have the differences in types of encounters and degrees of cultural change left today? Had syncretism not occurred in the Americas, how might modern culture be different? If cultural syncretism had taken root during early encounters in China or India, how might they be different today?
Each member of the group will accept a research role and a writing role within the creation of the project. These roles will be posted to the Small Group Discussion Board area. The substantive participation in the research and writing process by each member will be evident in the small group discussion board area. One cohesive, final document, 3-4 pages in length, should be crafted from the work of all participating members and posted by the team leader to the instructor via the Submit Assignments / Drop Box area.

The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each week.

India and China as well. the Europeon who visited China brought important information related to their political system and technology resulting in cross cultural transmission(Hobson & Hui,2005).The religion was carried from India to East Asia and Islam from Arabs to Africa and other countries(Buzn,2009). In view of China and India, there were no traditions and moral values in modernity brought by the Westerners rather they just have power of utility (Norbu, 1996). China and Africa were often involved in trade. China was basically interested in African ivory medicines, spices, exotic wood and exotic wildlife.
Europe with the passage of time became the centre of cultural amalgamation of Africa, America, China and India. Europeans adopted many things from these cultures (Sayre, 2010). On the other side in Africa and Americas, the European invaders considered the natives as the others, those who were different to them in color and status. They were treated as commodities, bought and sold as slaves in the markets. The slavery was majorly a result of the commoditization of humans in African and American continents. The African language, food, architecture, style of living and music are the legacies that still has influence today on American culture (AUK,n.d.). The encounters between African and Americans lead towards the positive cultural changes while the encounters between Westerners, India and China had not those positive outcomes. That was because of the rigid attitude of Chinese and In ...
