Q:
1,050 word paper in APA format outlining the development of a high level computer network design for Bead Bar. Your paper should include the network topology you think should be used, the network achitecture, and the advantages and drawbacks that the recommended network would provide to the organization. use the sections provided in Appendix E to organize your paper, as well as the specific requirements of each section.

The recommendations I would choose for a network topology would be the bus topology for a start. The bus network topology is inexpensive and simple to configure. Simply add whichever hardware by plugging the hardware into the network. Bus Networking does have its disadvantages, which is why an upgrade would be needed later.
The network architecture I would recommend for Bead Bar would be the client/server type because the file servers become the heart of the system, providing access to resources and providing security. Individual workstations (clients) have access to the resources available on the file servers (FCIT).
Since Bead Bar is just beginning to go global, and before they know if their business will take off on the Web they should keep costs at a minimum. That is why I believe the Bead Bar should use a bus topology. The bus topology is probably the most simple of the network topologies. In a bus topology, all the devices on a network are connected to a common central cable called a bus, which is the backbone of the network. A backbone is the main portion of a computer network that is capable of carrying the majority of traffic on the network. The backbone is commonly used to connect large networks or companies together.
The major advantages of th ...

While designing a high-level network for Bead Bar, I have chosen Mesh topology as Bead Bar has multiple sites to connect to. Mesh topology can be implemented using simple design and still provide redundant communication links between each site and thus have connectivity within all office branches. For network architecture design client-server has to be implemented. A client-server is an architecture that is capable of handling numerous requests at the same time and it can also be programmed to act as a storage unit and also for maintaining to allocated client records

Topologies:
When designing a network, we have to choose one of the topologies for our network design solution. Generally Bus, Ring and Star topologies are chosen, but as we would be connecting multiple offices, and in future there could be a requirement to add more offices and thus here, we choose mesh topology to provide some redundancy in communication links. Mesh topology with wide area network (WAN) linked through a public telecommunication network (satellite or leased phone line) will enable each site to share data with both efficiently, quickly, and reliably. This arrangement can be either full mesh where each site has a connection to every other site on the network or a partial mesh where sites have connection to one or two other sites but not all the sites on network

Network Architecture:
The client-server network is the best choice for the Bead Bar. A client-server is an architecture that is capable of handling numerous requests at the sam ...

The installation team will install all of the systems components. The final phase of the system development life cycle is maintenance. The system maintenance will include correcting any errors that may have occurred, backing up data and recovering any lost data, supporting end users and enhancing the system. The system development cycle can be extremely time consuming and each phase can take months to develop.

With the Bead Bar Company running on a paper base system and not on a world wide digital system puts the company at risk. Bringing the Bead Bar Company on board to the digital world puts them at an even higher risk of internal breaches and outside breaches, viruses; In addition, if the software is not written properly it will also open the company up to outside hackers. We also have to keep in mind employee and their security. If any employee leaves the company for any reason can also put them company and risk. What we need to do for the Bead Bar company, is, we need to develop a database management system (DBMS). The Enterprise (DBMS) will allow the Bead Bar to manage the data that they will need to store in the system; it will also assist in transforming and presenting the data. The Enterprise data management system will also ensure their security and enable them to control multi user access and it will also provide a database programming and query language thus providing a data dictionary. We will also need to incorporate a star network topology. The star topology will fill the Bead Company’s needs. With the Bead Bar having multiple locations that are spread across the United States and one being on a boat, the star network topology has the ability to have wired or wireless links; in which case the Bead Bar Company will need a wireless link for some of the networks. The star network topology can be linked through a public telecommunication network such as a satellite or regular phone line that will allow each site to share data with one another in a more efficiently, quickly, a ...

With the client server architecture the server will provide services that are requested from the client computers. “The servers are powerful computers with fast processors and a lot of memory that is capable of handling simultaneous requests from clients.” (Malaga, 2005) Servers will allow secure access to only the clients that are authorized access to the database or other services. This will allow certain data to be kept confidential and will only be accessed by people who need to see the data. Some of the executives expressed the need to be able to communicate to different branches; this solution would provide that ability. The integrity of the company data can be secured with this client server solution.
With the need for securing information that is kept on the company’s network the client server architecture is a better choice then the peer to peer network option. The peer to peer option will allow every system on the network to have access to all the information that is kept on the network and will compromise the privacy and integrity of the data that is stored there.
There are pros and cons to every network design; however the solution that has been recommended is the most cost affective for the current situation of the company. The choice of wireless technology for the main office has its pros and cons. The pro is the cost savings by not installing network cable throughout the office. The drawback is the speed of wireless network is slower then a hardwired Ethernet solution. In this case cost and the number of computers played an important part of the recommendation. The use of the wireless in the office set the topology to a star setup. The use of VPN versus a dedicated WAN is also based on cost and the actual requirements. The VPN and DSL solution is by far the cheapest and will be able to be implemented in new locations very easily at a lower cost. The disadvantage of the DSL and VPN solution is once again speed, the dedicated WAN will have higher data transfer rates then the VPN solution. Speed is not the issue in this situation. The issue is getting the data from one place to the other effectively. The DSL and VPN solution does this at a lower cost.
The client server recommendation is the on ...
