Writing Exercise 1 – Motivation

The writing assignments in this course ask you to compose paragraphs in response to questions based on your reading assignments. Has it been awhile since you have written a formal paragraph for someone else to read? Are you unsure how to write a good paragraph? No need to worry. Download and review the document titled “Paragraph Guidelines” for helpful information on writing paragraphs. Once you have reviewed the “Paragraph Guidelines” document, you will be ready to complete this writing exercise, which consists of two paragraphs. Last week you read the stories of Sara, Chris, Fred, and Jaime in Chapter 1 of your textbook. Apply this approach to yourself and write your own one-paragraph story. Then, in a second paragraph, explain which context from the chart that you believe motivates your learning: practical, personal, experiential, or idealistic. You must submit this assignment as a Microsoft Word file, written in Times New Roman 12-pt. font and double spaced. You must also upload the assignment to the appropriate place in your online course. Do not paste the assignment into your Discussion Boards. This assignment will be evaluated on the following criteria:

• Topic: Did your response address the topic described in the assignment instructions?
• Paragraph construction: Was the response written in well-developed paragraphs?
• Length: Was the response the appropriate length, as specified in the assignment instructions?
