What factors do you feel influenced the nurse theoristâs definitions and descriptions of the components of the metaparadigm in their respective models? ( Nightingale, Johnson, Orem, Roy, Leininger, Neuman, Rogers, and Watson) Fitzpatrick & Whall (2005) state that Florence Nightingale's nursing model was influenced by her "classical education, strong religious views of servitude toward "serving mankind," interest in statistics, and her experience in European hospitals (Florence Nightingale, Pioneer in Nursing Knowledge Development, para. 3). Her interest in clarifying the domain of nursing and systematically developing nursing knowledge arose, in part, because she was asked to design curricula for nurses at various educational levels. Johnson's model was influenced by her "knowledge of sociological theory, particularly Talcott Parsonâs work, and intercultural theories of child-rearing practices" (Fitzpatrick & Whall, 2005 ). "Talcott Parsons is an American sociologist who attempted to integrate all the social sciences into a science of human action" According to Fitzpatrick and Whall (2005), Orem developed her model while developing a nursing curriculum.
